Er du født til at være god eller dårlig til matematik?

I de vestlige lande er der en gængs opfattelse af, at nogle mennesker er naturlige gode til matematik og andre ikke!

Men det er faktisk en myte, der overføres fra voksne til børn og ødelægger læringsmulighederne (1).

Det er meget interessant, at denne myte ikke findes i asiatiske lande som Japan og Kina. Og disse lande ligger øverste i matematik evalueringerne ifølge OECD (2).

Alle babyer er født til at elske at lege - også med tal og er ivrige efter at lære matematik. Dette er den perfekte mulighed for forældre og lærere at stimulere og udfordre denne appetit.

En rundspørge viste at 4 ud af 10 personer siger, at de hader matematik (3). De hader ofte matematik fordi de har haft en dårlig oplevelse i skolen eller deres forældre hævdede, at ingen i familien var gode til matematik.

En elev får en dårlig oplevelse, når han / hun ikke gør fremskridt i matematik og kan føle sig bagud. Disse elever forsøger ofte at undgå matematik så meget som muligt i fremtiden. De misser desværre en stor mulighed, da matematik er afgørende for fremtidige teknologier (1).

Alle mennesker kan lære matematik, det handler kun om træning.

Som forælder bør du have en positiv holdning til tal og matematik. Tilbring tid med dit barn ved at spille og lege med tal eller hjælpe og støt op om deres matematiklektier.

Hvis du som forælder ikke kunne lide matematik som barn, er det ikke nødvendigt at fortælle det til dine børn.

Bare takl matematik på en anden måde. Du kan måske overraske dig selv, og opleve at matematik ikke er så slemt, som du husker.

Dit barn vil virkelig få gavn af at lære tal og matematik på en sjov, kreativ og god måde.

Are you born to be good or bad in math?

In the Western countries, we are convinced that some people are naturally good at math and some are not!

But it’s actually a myth that is transferred from adults to children and is damaging the learning possibilities (1).

It is very interesting, that this myth does not exist in Asian countries like Japan and China. And these countries are becoming worldwide champions in math according to OECD (2).

All babies are really born to love playing with numbers and are eager to learn math. This is the perfect opportunity for parents and teachers to nurture and challenge this appetite.

4 out of 10 people say that they hate math (3). They often hate math because they have had a bad experience in school or their parents claimed that nobody in the family was good at math.

A student gets a bad experience when he/she fails to progress in a math class and may feel left behind. Those students try to avoid math as much as possible in the future. They, unfortunately, miss a big opportunity as math is crucial for future technologies (1).

All people can learn math, it is just about training.

As a parent, you should have a positive attitude about numbers and math. Spend time with your child by playing with numbers or help to do their math homework.
If you, as a parent, did not like math as a kid, there is no need to tell that to your children.
Just tackle math in a different way and you may surprise yourself that math isn’t as bad as you remembered.

Your child will really benefit from learning the numbers and math in a fun, creative and good way.
