PATTERNS ARE FUN TO LEARN
I will have to warn you that your child might want to create patterns by envasing all the floor in your living room.
My 6-year-old son loves to create extremely long patterns that can be over 5 meters long!
If you want to avoid patterns that can go all the way out of the house, you need to be quick in creating a new pattern exercise for your child.
You might think, why patterns?
Learning Patterns is important as a foundation for basic math.
Patterns are all around us in daily life. It can be objects, shapes or other things that repeat.
By learning to recognize patterns, we can learn to predict the future and discover new things.
You can see patterns in beads in a necklace, tiles of a house, wallpaper or a melody in a song.
Children like to learn patterns by playing so I am going to show you some exercises.
HOW TO LEARN PATTERNS WITH THE NEWMERO BRICKS
I will here show you three exercises of colored patterns and numbered patterns.
Color Patterns
The easiest patterns with the newmero bricks are color patterns (suitable for preschoolers and 1st grade children).
You start laying down bricks in a sequence of colors. Your child needs to figure out the sequence and continue the line by adding more bricks.
1. Exercises
Do as shown on the picture;
Lay down the bricks green, green, yellow, yellow, green, green.
Your child needs to continue the line by adding the bricks yellow, yellow, green, green.
If the numbers on the bricks are confusing your child. You can “hide” the numbers by reversing the bricks so the numbers face down toward the table.
2. Exercise.
Lay down yellow, green, green and let your child continue the sequence.
3. Exercise.
Lay down yellow, green, blue, yellow. Let your child continue the sequence.
Number Patterns
Number patterns suit children who are in 1st grade 1 or 2nd grade.
1. Exercise.
Start with 2 and add the number 2 in a line so the sequence is 2, 4, 6.
Your child will have to add the numbers 8, 10, 12, 14…
2. Exercise.
Start with 1 and continue the pattern by adding 2 to the last number so the sequence is 1, 3, 5.
Your child will have to add the numbers 7, 9, 11, 13…
3. Exercise.
You can start with 1 and continue the pattern by adding 4 to the last number so the sequence is 1, 5, 10.
Your child will have to add the numbers 15, 20, 25, 30…
Now, it is your turn to create your own exercises of patterns in colors or numbers.
You can see a video of the color pattern or other exercises on newmero Youtube channel.
You can find where to buy a piece of newmero bricks on our website.
Clear out the floor in your living room and have fun!
